Last weekend I was playing Jenga with my nephew. Have you ever played Jenga?
Jenga reminds me of the first time I did project management. I made a nice concrete project plan. Then as time went by, more stakeholders got involved and complexity increased. Brick by brick the plan got shakier and shakier! Finally, everything toppled!

Jenga also reminded me of the play station at SHRM ‘22. Jenga, Dartboards, Caricatures, and so much more.

Did you attend SHRM this year? I had a wonderful experience. I want to share my perspective of the conference as I sat in our company-sponsored booth.

Let me set the scene for you…

People, people everywhere! It’s like the pandemic never happened

Enter: HR Man 1 (after successfully defeating his fellow panelist in Jenga)

His eyes lit up when he saw ‘BGV is now SaaS’. “Hey, what’s your offering on BGV?”, he asked. “And how long does it take?” Somewhere down the conversation, he discovered that by using IDfy’s BGV solution, his turnaround time can be cut down to minutes, he was hooked!

“Our current BGV vendor is an ****”. “Their staff changes every month so whenever there’s a problem, we find ourselves speaking with a new SPOC. What a **** pain!” If I had accepted all my autocorrect suggestions, this paragraph would be a paddling of ducks.

Exit: HR Man 1 after an interesting (and colorful) conversation and our card.

Enter: HR Lady 1 & HR Lady 2  

The two ladies from a well-known startup, halted on their way to pick up their third serving of the chocolate pastry (I don’t blame them, it was pretty good). “Hey, this is really interesting”, said HR Lady 1. “You know, as recruiters in the tech industry, we are so used to automation, but when it comes to our BGV vendors, it’s like the stone age”, she continued. “How cool is it to see an API-based plug & play BGV solution!”, HR Lady 2 chimed in.

“You’re not alone” was our message to them. As a tech company ourselves, we understand the pain and we put all that learning into developing our API-based BGV solution.

Exit: HR Lady 1 & HR Lady 2 with an IDfy brochure and a pastry. 

Enter: HR Man 2 with a hat I can’t forget & HR Lady 3 who is indifferent to the hat

“Hey, you have an interesting solution, but can you solve this problem for me?”, he asked. “You see, when we onboard a new employee, they first need to enter their details on the BGV application.” He continued, “And then, once they join, the same information has to be entered on our HRMS application.” “You can imagine how frustrating that is!”

She posed a rather unique problem, “We hire hundreds or thousands of workers. When we pass on their details to our BGV vendor, it’s like throwing a stone in the well. It never comes back.” The problem was staring in our face, along with her. “When the BGV results eventually arrive, it’s already too late because the workers have already been hired!” What a waste of money.

But we had just the solution, “You can use our instant pre-onboarding checks, and get your report in just a few minutes.” This was news to her. “You don’t have to wait for weeks for the BGV results.”

Exit: HR Lady 4 leaves with a demo for our Digital BGV

Enter: 4-5 HR folks come together 

“Listen, I understand you have an API-based BGV solution, but we hire in cohorts and need clarity on their onboarding status because staffing decisions need to be made almost immediately”, said one of them. “I need a dashboard that tells me the number of green/amber/red cases I have at any point.” He caught his breath and continued. “I also need to monitor TAT SLAs and pull up my vendor for any breach.” The next question was almost a plea, “Do you have something that can help me?”

My laptop almost winked at me from the table with the BGV dashboard still running from a previous demo. “Is this what you’re looking for?”, I asked. “This is the IDfy BGV dashboard, and you can have a complete overview of all cases in each block at any point.” Not just that, “You can share reports, drill down to investigate each case from the dashboard itself.”

Exit: All the 4-5 HR folks with our cards and a demo call booked for next Monday.
